Health & Beauty – Skin needling
Skin needling. Just hearing the name makes you wince. However, this treatment to restore a healthy youthful glow to tired skin is pretty much pain free (okay, there’s a mild bit of discomfort) and wow, does it produce results.
“The concept of skin needling is based on the skin’s natural ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical damage,”
Here’s how it works.
A qualified therapist will thoroughly cleanse your face and then apply a numbing cream. You then wait 40 minutes for the cream to work, take your place on the therapist’s table, and let her roll a small roller of super-fine needles all over your face. The micro-needles penetrate the top layers of the skin and create pin-point injuries in the deeper layers. The body’s natural healing kicks in in response to this mild invasion and new collagen and elastin are formed.
That’s summing it up simply for you without going into a lot of technical detail.
The numbing cream prevents any real pain, it’s more like a tingling all over the face – and the procedure is quick, all over in 10 minutes.
“The concept of skin needling is based on the skin’s natural ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical damage,” Cozmedics Medical Group paramedical skin specialist Donna Gordon said. “Immediately after an injury occurs to the skin, the body removes the damaged collagen and elastin and other structures and replaces it with new components.
The result is smoother, firmer and younger-looking skin.” I can vouch for Ms Gordon’s comments now that I have had three skin needling sessions.
Teenage sunburn and the general wear of daily living have left it looking tired – and while my expectations of improvement from skin needling were not high, after about two weeks I was surprised to notice a significant improvement.
My skin looks smoother, tighter, more…dare I say it?…glowing.
“Medical Skin Needling helps reduce wrinkles, lines and sun damage,” Ms. Gordon said. “It is particularly good for acne and chicken pox scars. It helps reduce pigmentationand gives slack skin firmness and elasticity.”
Staff at Cozmedics Medical Group comprise doctors, nurses and qualified therapists all trained in the latest procedures with a wealth of experience behind them.
Treatments include injectables, radiosurgery, photodynamic therapy and collagen induction therapy (needling).
“There is no miracle in a jar,” Ms Gordon said. “We believe in a variety of treatments for skin fitness.” The redness reduces overnight or at the longest, in 48 hours.
In my case there was no bruising, not even a need for cooling compresses at home which are recommended as after-treatment care.
